The affair started sometime in the year 2006. The actual search started towards the end of the year 2005. I was looking for a good music system to go with my DVD player and my search took me to the Philips MMS 430 - a 2.1 speaker system which could be connected to the PC as well the TV / DVD player. It had a good booming bass and cool looks. Got it for approximately 2.5K.
But something was missing. My dad had an Ahuja speaker made of wood and the sound from that when coupled with our Sony amplifier (both bought in the late 1970s) was way ahead of this cool gizmo from Philips. This led me on the trail for those elusive speakers and amplifier. My search led me to this great forum called hifi-forum (www.hifi-forum.de) which talked about a bevy of beauties ranging from Wharfedales to Kefs and to Bang&Olufsens.Searching, listening for over 3 months and finally in March 2006, I became the proud and passionate owner of a pair of Wharfedale Diamonds 8.4 and a Marantz AVR 4600. Topped that with a jumbo bean bag and I had a reason to come home to.
But that affair was shortlived. Transferred to Mumbai 3 months later, that was the last I was to see of my dear speakers and AVR for more than a year. November 2007 brought me to Bangalore. Closer to Chennai and my dear ones.
I could bring the speakers here but how? Movers and Packers? Didnt trust them to treat my babies with care. I had to do it on my own but for that I needed a car. So the search for a good car. Well a car is supposed to take care of my future needs also apart from just ferrying the speakers right! So spent some months evaluating, researching and test driving helped by yet another forum called team bhp (www.team-bhp.com)
June 2007 - the car was in but the house I was in..nope my poor speakers needed a better place. Started a house search. Jan 2008 - moved into a bigger house, more room for my speakers to burst out in all their glory. Now I could go and bring my beauties home.
Feb 2008 (4 days back) drove down to Chennai with my cousin from Mysore who came over inspite of an injury to his leg which made him limp. My other cousin in Chennai had taken exceptional care of them in my absence. My aunt had even stitched covers for them. One comforting thought all these years was that the speakers were in my cousin's care who would ensure their well being.
That Saturday, packed and stored my speakers + the AVR carefully in the car. Threw in the jumbo bean bag for company which almost hid my view of the rear. Bid a farewell to my cousin and aunt and hit the GQ to Bangalore. Full points to Chevy Spark for taking it all in and also cruising comfortably at 120 kmph.
Sunday Feb 24, 2008 - Almost 2 years since the affair started. Me and my speakers and the AVR are finally reunited.
As they say if you love something, set it free.. if it comes back... And so we are all back together again!
You dear friend are welcome anytime for an evening of fine music and laughter..
